Chemical Engineering is a broad and versatile profession
concerned with the development and application of processes
in which chemical or physical changes of materials are involved.
This branch of engineering is based on the sciences of chemistry,
physics, mathematics, and the biosciences and is guided by
the principles of economics. The work of the chemical engineer
may be in research, development, design, sales, production,
or in the engineering and management of process plants. These
functions can be performed in a wide variety of areas, such
as the chemical process industries, the petroleum and related
(coal and shale) industries, pollution control, nuclear energy,
biology and medicine, food, business, and patent law.
