Welcome to the
Hodge research group webpage. Our research is focused on many of the
aspects of the conversion of plant biomass (lignocellulose) to fuels and
chemicals. This research works to
better understand bioconversion processes at both the fundamental and applied
levels to enable the successful deployment of biofuels technologies and simultaneously
works toward the goals of energy independence, developing rural economies,
and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Research areas include enzyme and microbial catalysis, transcriptome and proteome profiling,
chemical pretreatments, process integration, and modeling,
optimization, and control of biotechnological processes. Together these
allow the exploration of many of the most significant challenges and rising
opportunities in the growing bioeconomy.
