Aspen Printing Bug Workaround

ASPEN may freeze when printing. This continues to be a bug that they have not fixed. The problem causes the Aspen product to freeze, and must be killed with the task manager. Below is a workaround to prevent the Aspen product from freezing, and allow normal printing, but the steps must be done every time the user logs onto a lab computer and wants to print from Aspen.

Before attempting to print anything in the AspenTech product,

1. Click "Printers and Faxes" in the Start menu.
2. Right click on any non-network printer such as "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" printer or "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" and set it as the Default Printer.
3. Switch back to the AspenTech product and prepare to print.
4. Click Print in the File menu, do not press the Print toolbar button.
5. The print dialog should appear and the printer you made default in step 2 will be selected.
6. Use the drop down printer Name box to select the desired printer.
7. Press the Ok button and it should print just fine.

This would need to be done each time you start up an Aspen product.
